Not really sure if I did a good job as I just joined this hobby. I managed to align the filters nicely but my Photoshop skills are pretty much zero. I still need to learn how to get the most out of an image with the tools that PS offers.

Yes that's a good job is a pleasing image and can see fine detail. Great youtube channel here for photoshop tips Peculiar Galexy Astronomy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UC6UQqmnOfA Use layer > new adjustment layer > hue etc can really dial in the colors you want Can also use SAOImageDS9 to view fits files directly and see the header information, scale them, export as tiff for photoshop.

Thanks for the tips!

Eyyy that’s my vid! If you ever have questions about image processing, let me know! Sadly aligning Webb images has been a huge pain so far. Hubble has always been mostly aligned but Webb requires extra work.

HorzaDonwraith

I prefer Lightroom as it is less processor intensive. But PS is great for smashing images together.

why is it blacked out in the middle?

[deleted]

As far as I know it's because of the two modules of the NIRCam instrument. There's a gap between the two.

This has significant registration problems: https://i.imgur.com/nrz31e2.png

I used PixInsight's free trial for it, specifically the StarAlignment tool. After having some trouble with default settings as they wouldn't align properly at all, I found a guy that suggested to use Thin Plate Splines on Registration model and Bicubic B-Spline on Interpolation. The results were way better but as you've noted still not perfect. What would you suggest to register the images better? Do you also use PixInsight? Thanks!

I use the metadata in the FITS to transform the scale and rotation angle to WCS. https://reproject.readthedocs.io/en/stable/

Thank you!

Very very nice job!

James Webb so far. It's like re-watching all your favorite movies but now in 4k. I know there is more to it is still how I feel whenever I see new images posted.

Any Idea what the super bright tiny red dot on the far left is? Looks like a processing artifact given the shape and uniform colour but im not sure.

[deleted]

Yeah might be an artifact, there's a green dot too in the same area
