Valid IDs in the Philippines

Whether you are an average Filipino, a graduate, a professional or unemployed, this information is for you! Do you know what are some of the valid identification cards (IDs) you should possess? A valid ID is important to verify someone's identity, and is a significant form of document when one is transacting business, signing legal papers, opening bank accounts, among others.

Here's a list of some of the acceptable and valid IDs in the Philippines:

1. Voter's ID

Only a Filipino registered voter, whose biometrics (i.e. photograph, fingerprints and signature) have been successfully captured digitally using COMELEC's Voter's Registration Machine (VRM), or the old Data Capture Machine (DCM) during application may be issued a voter ID card. NO BIOMETRICS, NO ID.

2. Postal ID

A postal ID is one of the important documents required by banks to be presented especially when one decided to open a bank account. It can also be used to verify one's identity when receiving a package or mail.


When opening a business, or will be employed by a company, a tax identification number is required. For such, a TIN ID is a must. A tax identification number (TIN) is a one-time registration number that you will have forever. Possessing more than one tax number is punishable by law.


The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) launched their GSIS eCard, a unified card for GSIS members that can be used for as a banking transaction card, hospitalization discount card, medicine discount card, and tuition discount card, among others


The UMID was launched by the government to promote the Unified Multi-Purpose Identification System. Formerly known as the SSS ID, the UMID is the single ID card for SSS, GSIS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG (also known as the Home Development Mutual Fun or HDMF) members.


A person can acquire a PRC ID if he or she pass a licensure examination administered by the Professional Regulatory Board. The PRC ID serves as a license for board examination passers to practice their profession. Professionals from the medical, accountancy, engineering and teaching fields are given a PRC ID, among many others.

7. PhilHealth ID

A PhilHealth card is issued to a member remitting or paying contributions to Philhealth until his or her retirement. The card is also useful for transaction to health providers affiliated with PhilHealth.

8. Driver's License

    One who meets the requirements and qualifications set by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) as a qualified and able driver can secure a driver's license. Mind though, that driver's license issued by the LTO are categorized as to student, non-professional and professional license.     10. Company ID


You must secure at least two or three of these IDs to be able to do transaction or even used a identification. So, as early as now, might as well ready your documents and apply for such Ids.
