Jobs Up For Grabs for Fresh Graduates

Date Posted: Mar 26, 2011

Are there jobs waiting for fresh graduates?

This is one of the biggest questions going through the minds of the graduates as they go up the stage to accept their diplomas.

Antonio Rafael Alicanio of Ateneo de Manila de University says, "It is very possible for any senior to find a good job because in this world, there are so many opportunities and so many niches that are being filled by all these talented people."

Arny Joshua Ochabillo is optimistic as well. "I am looking forward to a lot of opportunities that will come to my life being a student of I.T. (information technology)," he says.

According to Penny Bongato, Talent Development Director of Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP), there are around 125,000 to 150,000 jobs waiting for new graduates in the business process outsourcing industry (BPO) alone.

Bongato says that opportunities for employment can come from various BPO sectors such as the call centers, software development units, healthcare information departments, and animation . "We have a lot of opportunities for fresh grads all-year round," she says.

The same goes for the tourism industry. DOT Secretary Alberto Lim says there are many job opportunities in the various 'allied' sectors of tourism. "The jobs in the industry come in many forms. Some people want to work in hotels, some people want to work as tour guides, (and) some people work in transportation sector," he says.

To land a job, Bongato advises newly graduates to have determination, patience, and perseverance.
