International IT Firm Hires Filipino Engineers

Trend Micro, Inc., an international content security provider opens its new facility in the Philippines, making it as its global headquarters.

The company is known for being one of the top companies that develops anti-virus solutions and other software.

Chief executive officer of Trend Micro, Eva Chen said that they are now currently had 1,200 highly skilled IT engineers which will help the company develop more anti-virus solutions and other software for their various clients.

“The Philippine hub primarily does antivirus research, execute red alerts, provides support services to its head office and customers and software development,” Chen added.

Trend Micro, Inc. is listed in Tokyo Stock exchange and was the first IT firm that the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) approved in 1998.

It also has an office in Texas, USA which also hire mostly Filipinos. The Philippine operation is supported by a back-up team in Texas that is also composed of 40 Filipinos, which are rotated every six months.

Trend Micro, which is known for producing anti-virus software such as PC-Cillin, estimates that that one new malware is created every 1.5 seconds and that 92 percent of the threats arrive via the internet.

The Philippine operation specializes in threat detection through its TrendLabs, which has the facility and trained people to come up with an anti-virus solution quickly to avert the threat.

While the company has acknowledged challenges in looking for the right people with the right skills, it also provides higher than industry standards compensation.
