Esperon: Job Fairs Create More Jobs

Date Posted: Jul 27, 2009

Former Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and now part of the Presidential Management Staff, Secretary Hermogenes Esperon, Jr believes that more jobs were created through job fairs.

Job fairs are conducted to strengthen the labor sector as well as the economy and the country as a result may be spared from global recession.

Esperon stressed this point during his speech when he attended a job fair held at the Tayug National High School in Tayug, Pangasinan.

Esperon, who served as the a Cabinet Officer for Regional Development (CORD) for the fifth and sixth congressional districts said that while the world is reeling from the global recession hitting even highly-developed countries like the United States, Japan and the entire Europe, the Philippines has yet to experience negative growth.

“The President had foreseen the economic slowdown and she did something to spare the country from it,” he added.

He also reported that thru the government’s Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP), they created 117,800 jobs and employed more than 230,000 people.

“More than 12,000 individuals from eastern Pangasinan benefited already from the program,” Esperon added.

According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) which monitored the job fair in the town, a total of 5,702 jobs for local and overseas employment were offered.
