New Tools To Test Competency of College Students in BPO Jobs Soon

Date Posted: Jul 9, 2009

A competency assessment tool that will test the student’s capability to work in call center companies will be disseminated in several schools and universities in the country this year.

The National Competency Assessment Tool that aims to strengthen the Business Process Outsourcing Industry (BPO) is now being taken by 1,000 BPO workers and will soon be acquired by college students in the country.

Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) chief executive Oscar Sañez said the test is being tweaked and should be finalized this month.

“We’re currently calibrating the testing tool. We’re running the test on 1,000 BPO workers. We’re exposing the testing tools to the workers because the idea is to calibrate [the test]. This is the best way to determine which tool will eventually use in the schools,” Sañez says.

“We’ll probably finish running the tests within July. We’ll probably make a recommendation on which standard tool to use by August. We can pilot the test in 10 schools within the year, starting with our partners in ADEPT (Advance English Proficiency Training) program,” he added.

The exam would identify the standard testing tools that could be used to measure the suitability of college students to work in the BPO industry.

Sañez added that they are aiming to create 100,000 new jobs this year.

Aside from the competency exam, the organization will also hold more English-proficiency training, BPO investment missions and conferences, and leadership training for middle managers
