Retrenchment Looms for Employees of Moog Controls Ltd.

Date Posted: Jun 3, 2009
To cope with the strike of the global financial crisis, Moog Controls Ltd., a manufacturer of high tech components based in Baguio City is set to reduce its workforce. Moog Inc. produces the parts for both commercial and military aircraft, satellites and industrial and medical equipment. Its major unit is based in New York City.

The local Labor office reported that Moog Inc. will have to lay off almost 30 percent of its employees starting July 1 of this year. That would mean that 293 of its 1,000 workers would lose their jobs.

Sixto Rodriguez, Labor Department Assistant Director said that this will be the first time that the high tech company would resort to worker’s retrenchment since it stated its operations in northern city of Baguio 25 years ago.

The Assistant Director assures the public that the department is doing all it can to ensure that workers to be laid off will receive the separation package promised by Moog. Rodriguez also said that the workers can expect assistance from other government agencies.
