Jobs for Tourism Graduates Up for Grabs

Date Posted: May 8, 2009

Secretary Ace Durano of Department of Tourism is inviting all job seekers particularly those who are in line in tourism to attend the 4th Trabaho sa Turismo Manila fair 2009 on May 22-23 at the SM Mall of Asia SMX Convention, Pasay City.

This annual job fair that DOT organized will cater thousand of job vacancies with over 270 employers this time. The DOT aims to give jobs for thousand of jobseekers and fresh graduates who are all competently aiming for a decent career.

The Trabaho sa Turismo fair is the only tourism-focused job fair in the country.

This year, the DOT invites 275 employers from various sectors in tourism like DOT-accredited local and foreign-based employers such as airlines, shipping/cruise companies, hotels, resorts, restaurants, travel agencies, tour operators, convention and exhibition centers, spa and wellness establishments, recruitment firms, golf clubs, malls and department stores, call centers and business process outsourcing companies, banks, schools, government agencies, and entertainment outfits, among many others.

A remarkable 54% in terms of number of participating employers increased this year to lend a job for the increasing number of jobless in the country.

“This big number of participating employers may also mean more jobs available to applicants during TST’s staging at the SMX Convention Center on May 22 to 23,” Secretary Durano says.

“These (job openings) should reflect the industry’s mounting manpower needs as a result of newly completed and ongoing tourism projects,” Durano said of the 1,700 rooms scheduled to open in Manila this year and 2,000 others elsewhere in the country.

“These are all part of the P550-billion expansion projects of various investors involving some 7,000 new hotel and resort rooms,” Durano said.

The job fair is still part of the yearly project of DOT to boost the growing and expanding economy in tourism with the help of employing more workers. Aside from DOT, other government departments will launch a city-wide job fairs soon. DOLE’s jobapalooza continues to give jobs to other jobseekers in key cities and regions nationwide.
